Snowgirls:

Freeskiing and freestyle snowboarding are sports which are more and more popular in the world and in Slovakia more and more young people are involved in these sports. People, who are doing these sports, differ by colorful clothes, creative style of riding, wide choice of possible tricks, they get to know with snowparks and people who are already keen on these sports. At competitions the style and presentation of tricks are more important than the time. Freeskiing has been changing in a recent time as it was included in the Winter Olympics in Sochi (RUS) 2014.

Slovakia has female talents that not only excel in freesking and freestyle snowboarding, but also achieve success home and abroad. Since 2010 year the project snowgirls has begun to document riding, trainings and traveling of four successful Slovak riders (Zuzana Stromkova, Natalia Slepecka, Klaudia Medlova, Martina Molnarova). Through video episodes and tutorials the project offers view into the world of these sports, presents it to the public and encourages to try something new. Since February 2012 the project has gained a second wind and has begun to document the way of Natalia, Zuzana and Klaudia to the Winter Olympics in Sochi (RUS) 2014.

SKIING IN SLOVAKIA

Me with Steven.

Home sweet home! Everybody knows the feelings, when they return home after a long time. I was so happy to be home for a while in December. Especially after couple of months in Prague. Especially because all ski resorts are open and we could ride! I had been there with my brother Richie and my boyfriend Steven.
The snowparks were not huge yet, but good enough for nice riding.

In Jasna were 4 obstacles. We rode there couple of times. During the last days me and Steven were lucky to rode also in Majovka, little bit off piste.

Jasná shredding.

Because of new cable cabin, a lot of tourists can reach Chopok (2024m). We were not VYNIMKA J. The best ODMENA was awesome view!

Chopok North (with Kamenná chata).
Powder time...
...in Májovka.

Falling down in a powder. Hehe! The best :)

We also had fun riding ordinary piste.

We went to Donovaly for one day. The Riders Park is getting prepared, for now there are some basic  obstacles,  around 6 metres long rail (!) but no jumps.  The funny moment was  that some random skiers, standing next to the bar, thought I was from America, because I was talking in english to Steven. Haha!

Unfortunatelly, I have no other pics from Donovaly because of bad, foggy and rainy weather.

EVENT: BIG JUMP EXHIBITION 2012

Downtown of a city. Huge bag fullfilled by air. Freeskiers and snowboarders. Jump, fun, adrenalin…

Cagi asked me couple of questions :)

Universal BIG JUMP Exhibition Zilina 2012 from POME on Vimeo.

Me and other riders  attempt the unique event Universal Bag Jump Exhibition 2012. This event was organised for the second time and took place again in Žilina (SVK) at Hlinkovo námestie, 14.12.2012.  We had opportunity to show our riding skills to people around.

The view from jumping tower.
The view of rider before jumping.

My very first jump after one year long break. Straight air, mute grab.

Richie jumping.
Richie jibbing.

Some people might think bag jump is good for training only. They are right, it is good to practise new tricks jumping to the bag, but not this time. As also Jurko Bernát said, in Žilina it is more about show for people, exhibition and have fun with friends.
Doing interview for POME with Jurko Bernát.
OX presentation.
Nice tree.
Organisers improved event so much this year. Close to bag jump was also podium with live music, dancers (hip-hop, folklor) . Program included also tombola or jumping to the bag from a tower.
It all started after lunch time. Riders was able to jump entire afternoon. Unfortunatelly, in the evening there were problems with engine and rope.  Organisers tried to fix it so hard, but riders was not able to jump anymore. As the results were consider jumps from qualification. There were two categories, the best snowboarder and the best freeskier. I was the only freeski-girl jumping there and Zuzka Medlová was the only snowboard-girl.

360 with a mute.
After jumping we went to Infinitive club, where was the afterparty. It was connected with premiers of Snowgirls The Movie  from POME Media House and  Back To The Streets from Peter Čaja. You could also see Patrik Paulínyi´s short jibbing movie And you how are you.  Party could begun!
It´s a pity that the rope and engine didn´t work. Let´s hope next year this kind of problems will avoid this awesome event!

Thanks to my sponsors Holy Wooly and OX! :)

EVENT: HOLEŠOVICE FASHION MARKET 2012

After Street Arena, OX attended another expo before x-mass, again in Prague. Holešovice Fashion Market 2012. I was also part of it, explaining to visitors what freeskiing is about and what are freestyle skis good for.

HFM 2012 was little bit different. It was not aimed on sport equipment, but more on fashion and design. During 7.-8.12. the place was full of creative people, who was selling there their products, clothes, colorful jewellery, beanies, woolen owls... and skis :).

I enjoyed it all a lot. People were interested in extraordinary OX skis with fresh design. A lot of them saw twintip skis before on the slopes, but had no opportunity to know something more about it. So me and Ondrej was answering a lot of questions. Why twintip, what it is good for? What is inside the ski? Are the skis good for kiting? Can I ride slopes with this skis? ...
With this year collection, OX has pretty nice portfolio of skis. For instance Lobotomy (good for slopes), Maniac Scream (ideal for jibbing), Dem'to'palby (awesome for huge kickers).

You are not sure which skis are best for you? OX offers you a help. Write an email (oxskis@oxskis.com) or contact Ox via facebook. We will give you some advances and answer your questions.

TRIP TO SNOWTROPOLIS

Richie
Richieee
In my blog from Street Arena, I mentioned couple of possibilities of riding, while there is no real snow on the moutains. But there is one more way - visiting indoor ski hall.

Me, Steven, Richie and Laci had visited Snowtropolis for one day ni November 2012. It is indoor skihall in Germany, approximately 2,5 hours away  from Prague. One wide slope with a lift and conveyor belt included few obstacles. One line began with street rail, broken in the middle, ordinary straight street rail and a street iron tube. On the other side was head of snow followed by rainbow and wider funbox. We bought tickets for entire day for 30 Euros, changed our clothes and started to ride.

The snow was good, the park was not shaped so well but it was good enough for trying some basic tricks. We all felt that we need some time to get used to it.

The lift was slow and after lunchtime the conveyor belt was not working, so people had to wait couple of minutes in a queue. Some locals and other snowboarders were riding later too. Richie and Laci were trying some transfers, Steven some fs noseslide pretzel 45 out and so on.

After Street Arena, this was the second time I had my skis on. Finally some reall skiing! I enjoyed it a lot although it was artificial snow :). I slided down the rails and also tried some 270s out. Because the snow melted since the lunch time and started to be slushy, later that day I was riding only the box and tried to learn sw 27in.

Even the riding was good and pretty much fun, I must admit riding on a real moutains is better for me :).

EVENT: STREET ARENA 2012

With upcoming winter season every freeskier wants to train as much as possible. There is several ways how to do that.

The best possibility, of course, is to visit some glaciers. Hintertux, Dachstein, Stubai or other austrian resorts are already opened and offers you high quality snowparks for a good training.
The second possibility is to have your own jib in a backyard. Not everybody has the opportunity as Andreas Hatveit (check video here), but for example my teamrider Šimba has really nice setups  (video of Šimbas backyard).
The third possibility to visit some street jibbing contest or a jam.
With my friends.

Kika made fun from my t-shirt! :)

In Czech, jibbing on a real snow have started with Best Trick Jam Session in Karolínka and since october 2012 there were another two events in Prague.
Unfortunatelly I couldn't attented the first one, Big Shock Freestyle Weekend Praha 2012, where the jibbing was part of expo Apres Ski. It was organised for the second year and the progression of entire snowpark was really good.
The second event I am about to mention was part of expo Street Arena in Holešovice.

Ondrej Nosek on a street rail.

A lot of riders, mostly snowboarders, attended the jibbing jam and later the best trick contest. It happened on three obstacles - street rail, 6 m funbox and bended rail.
I was riding all three of them. I took it easy, it was really the first time I tried to jib on the snow after my knee injury, but it was pretty much fun. Goood music was playing and also my boyfriend Steven, my brother Richie and some friends of mine was riding.

Unfortunatelly I have only this picture of mine riding the box :).

My skis pimped by new stickeeer :).

Steven is happy to ride!

As I mention, jibbing was part of expo Street Arena. This was the first year this event was made. I went there to represent OX. With Tomáš Murgáč and his brother Matúš representing Progress Zone we shared a tent.

Me with David from OX and Murgi with Matúš from Progress Zone.

OX was also there to introduce a new collection for winter season 2012/2013. For more information check the OXblog (in Czech language).

I also made some pictures from entire weekend, you can find it in facebook album.
