ISPO MUNICH 2014

For the second year in a row I had visited ISPO in Munich. Exhibitors from all over the world presented their products during one week, from 26 January till 1 February 2014 at this huge event.

If I counted it correctly, there were altogether 13 halls full of goods from segments of Outdoor, Ski, Action and Performance sport. Although I quickly went through almost all of them, halls A1, A2 and A3 were interesting for me the most according to their focus on Action Sports.

Once again, it was a great experience. Even though some of the biggest brands had the same stand as the last year, most of the time I was nicely surprised and impressed by creativity of the exhibitors. Stands were made from all kind of different materials, shapes, using lights, water and different complements aimed to attract the attention of potential customers and business partners. Of course, everything perfectly set with the products as the main decoy.
You could visit premiers of snowboard movies or simply have a beer and nice talks in a stand of your favourite brand. After 6pm some of the brands were allowed to throw their own party connected with concerts, which was really insane.
Rich program of every day consisted of presentations, contests on scooter or sk8 ramp,  slack-line exhibition or conferences.

Surprisingly, I spent most of the time around freestyle skis. Primary I focused on my new sponsor, FACTION skis.
Simple stand with a bar was full people and of the great news for upcoming year. One of the biggest news is a women apparel, which looks awesome. Stylish, technical clothes are made of high quality materials and they are comfortable for skiing as well as for urban wearing. I can't wait till I try them myself on the mountains.

Swiss-based brand made some innovations in men apparel as well. They have started to use aerogel insulation in some of their clothes series. Developed by NASA, aerogel is a synthetic porous ultralight material derived from a gel. It offers higher thermal performance than any other widely used insulation material (more about FACTION apparel here).

There are also new backcountry tools such as shovel, probe or vacuum skins. To make any ski trip as safe as possible, FACTION comes with a bag with ABS Vario system for the avalanches.
Skis are not left behind. For example, Candide 1.0 are made by wider edges, great for hitting the rails. Something totally new is STP technology. ,,STP technology is a patent-pending process used to press a small wave into the length of the ski. This creates a 'pre-stressed' core with increased torsional strength, letting us use less wood to create lighter, more forgiving skis with above-average edge-grip.'' says FACTION catalogue.

INTERVIEW: FREESTYLE CROSS-COUNTRY SKIER

Freeskiing je úžastný šport charakteristický svojou jedinečnosťou a rozmanitosťou. Na mysli mám nielen triky, ale aj miesta, kam sa možete dostať, zážitky, ktoré možete zažiť, či ľudí, kterých možete stretnúť. Ak sa zúčastníte freeski kontestu alebo súťaže, očakávate tam, logicky, riderov na lyžiach. No ja som spoznala člověka, ktorý sa na štart postavil na freestyle běžkách.
Čítate správne. Vojta Tryzna je jeden z mála ľudí, ktorý jazdí freestyle bežky, tzv. jibskate.

Keďže to znie tak neuveriteľne, ako to vyzerá, nedalo sa mi nespýtať sa ho pár otázok.

Ahoj Vojta, mozes mi, prosim, napisat par viet k tomu ako si sa k tomuto športu dostal, jako dlho to robis, ci je to ,normalne´?

Abych začal nějak od začátku od mládí jsem vrcholově závodil v běžeckém lyžování a biatlonu, občas zacinkala i nějaká ta medaile a vůbec dělal jsem a stále dělám všemožný sporty. Rád se pouštím do nových výzev a tak poslední rok vrcholovýho sportovce jsem začal zkoušet freeski lyže, ale moc mi to nevyhovovalo svoji váhou (jak bot, tak lyží samotných) a nutností být k nim pevně připoután. Ještě jak jsem psal, nevyrůstal jsem na nich, takže žádná sláva, navíc korunovaná natrženýma vazama.

Freestyle běžky "Jibskate" bylo něco nového, co nikdo v Česku v roce 2007 nedělal (a ještě teď můžu směle říct, že zábradlí jezdím jako jediný). Tedy velká výzva, která začala už samotným sehnáním lyží, které se k nám ani nedováželi, pak výběrem vázání (používám vázání na klasiku, pro odborníky SNS Profile Equipe classic) a jeho umístěním, boty sem bafnul svoje závodní modely na skate a mohlo se začít s prvními pokusy (sám sem si říkal, jestli jsem se nezbláznil :-)). Následovali inovace v podobě nové skluznice a vsazení hran (opět řešení jejich umístění a délky), ve finále jibbing na řadě akcí a typech překážek, které si parádně užívám.

Běžky jsou pro mě přirozenější a volnější (volná pata, měkčí bota, lehčí lyže), ale na úkor stability, takže někdy i dost bolí. No ten úžasnej pocit zdolání nějaký záludný překážky, kterej nás posouvá dál, ten máme asi všichni stejný ať už jezdíme na čemkoli...

Spomínal si vsadenie hrán do bežiek. Koľko také bežky znesú? Ako dlho ti vydržia?

Vydržej opravdu hodně moc :-), skákal jsem s nima do vody i jezdil prašan, samozřejmě už byly několikrát zlomený, ale stejnej týpek co mi je vytunil je dokáže zase vždycky i dát dohromady, takže s malejma opravama jsou nezničitelný (jo a pro jistotu mam dvoje :-)). Problémem byla třeba délka hran, které kvůli zachování pružnosti nemám po celé délce lyže. Původní rozměr hran se musel zkrátit, protože na jejich konci docházelo k lámání lyžě. Ale jinak nemám za ta léta jedinou prasklou hranu a tak se ptám, kdo z Vás to má? :-)

Aké sú tvoje obĺúbené triky? Predpokladám, že pomenovaním alebo prevedením sa dosť podobajú trikom na lyžiach. Existujú špeciálne triky len pre jibskate?

Jasná věc triky přebírám od freeskierů, třeba teď mě hodně inspirovaly X-games a Olympijské finále :-D ;-) Jak se říká kdo chce s vlky....takže vyju s klukama v parku :-). Nejoblíbenější asi točky na bedýnku 270 na obě strany nebo jízda ze switche, nějakej ten switch up. Z railů pak bs 270, nebo nějaký zapeklitosti jako S-rail. Když se někdy podívám do vzduchu, tak se taky občas o něco pokusím, ale kosti už nemám nejmladší takže žádný krůtí rolky, spíš na styl :-). Jinak z freeridu jasně vede Velká Kotelní jáma, jen se do ní vždycky dostanu se 190 cm dlouhejma závodníma skate lyžema, takže cílem je se tam vyškrábat i mýma freestylovkama. Speciální mám určitě dopady, tam si totiž vzhledem k volné patě můžu vystřihnout telemark, ale jak říkám snažím se jezdit s klukama a něco od nich okoukat ;-).

Kam chodievaš najčastejšie jazdiť? Vídať ťa napríklad na lokálnych eventoch v Čechách. Vyrazíš niekedy aj na ľadovce?

Nejčastěji u nás v Kérkonoších, měl jsem i šestku gun nad domem, ale teď už tam bohužel stojí barák. V okolí je řada super snowparků, některé vznikly, zanikly, nebo se jim teď nedaří něco vystavět. Jak už to bývá, někdy stačí bedýnka a dobrá parta a jsou na tom ty nejlepší shredy! Eventy tak nějak objíždím jak je čas. Když se něco koná u nás v Kérkonoších tak mě tam asi potkáte. Ne zvláště kvůli závodu, ale kvůli atmosféře a možnosti zase potkat lidi, které jsem třeba dlouho neviděl a zajezdit si s nimi. Taky jsem už třikrát vyrazil s běžkama do Prahy na náplavku, kde to bylo super poježdění s přáteli s vyhlídkou na Hradčany. Ledovce jsem objížděl dřív ať už Stubai nebo Hintertux, taky sem byl pojezdit v Livignu, ale teď už dost času sebere škola, práce, průvodcovní po horách, nějaký horolezecký akce a další aktivity, tak už si jezdím pro radost po těch našich horách a údolích ;-).

Matternhorn.

Ešte by ma zaujímalo, ako je to s jibskate vo svete. Poznáš viacerých riderov? Zháňaš si dáke informácie alebo sleduješ v tom trendy? Či si skrátka samouk?

Všeobecně se dá říct, že skoro každý běžec na lyžích si někdy po tréninku jde zaskákat na nějaký ten skůček (aspoň za mých mladých let to tak bylo). Raily a zvláště pak trubky jsou jiný příběh, tam už se do toho tolik lidí nehrne :-D Ze světa znám tak Andy Newella, který patří do americké běžecké repre a občas si vyrazí zalítat nějaký rodeo. Vim, že v Česku si tyto lyže objednali i někteří další, ale na tyče se jim zatím moc nechce, tímto bych je chtěl vyzvat :-)! Nedávno mi psal jeden junior ze Švédska, který se ptal na nějaký podrobnosti ohledně vylepšení. Co se týče freestyle běžek, jsem samouk, ale taky jsem absolvoval newschool campy v Hrozenkově a rád si nechám poradit nebo se optám ve snowparku při ježdění :-). Teď jsme s jednou českou freeski firmou polemizovali, jestli se nepokusíme vyrobit freestyle běžky, jak to dopadne to se nechme překvapit :-).

There is no doubt freeskiing is an unique sport. It is characteristic not only by diversity of tricks but also places u can visit or people you can meet. When you see some freeski contest, of course you would expect riders with twintip skis.

I met a person, who rides such a contests on cross-country skis. You read it correctly. Vojta Tryzna is one of few people, if not the only one in Czech, who do this sport called jibskate.

Because it sounds as crazy as it looks, I asked him couple of questions about his unusual hobby.

Hi Vojta, could you, please, explain me how have you started with this sport, how long do you do that, if it is ´normal´?

To start from the beginning, I was a pro athlete in cross-country skiing and biathlon and from time to time I won some medal. In general, I did and I still do a lot of different sports. I like a new challenges, so last year as the pro athlete I had tried ordinary twintip skis. Because of its weight (skis and boots) and being attached to the binding I didn´t feel comfortable with it. Moreover I found out it was not my cup of coffee, even more after I torn my ACL.

Freestyle cross-country skis was something new, nobody in Czech in 2007 did. Even now I can say I am the only one here riding the rails. This challenge started with getting a special skis, which are not imported to Czech. Continued with dilemma how to choose a good binding (for now I use classic, for those who knows I use SNS Profile Equipe classic) and how to drill it. Shoes weren´t  a big issue, I grab my old ones. After all this I was ready for my first attempts, asking myself if I am not crazy :).

I made some innovations, such as new surface and edges (question was how to did that and how long). In the end I visited couple of events with several types of obstacles and I really enjoy riding it.

Although cross-country skis are more natural for me, more free (not attached heel, softer shoes, lighter skis) sometimes it really hurts because of stability, which you can loose really easily. On the other hand, the great feeling when you slide the obstacle and do some trick which push you forward is amazing. I guess it is similar for everyone who do also freeskiing or snowboard.

You mentioned you customised your skis. How long you can ride one pair ?s it not damaged too quickly?

It can handle quite a lot :). I jump with them into the water, I rode a powder ... Of course I broke some, but friend who helped me to make them is always able to repair it. So basically with small reparations  they are indestructible (I have two pairs anyway, just in case).

The problem was how long the iron edges should be. They are not as long as the edge of the ski so the ski keeps its flexibility. The original size of the edges is shorter, because the skis were broken a lot at their end.

I have no broken edge for years. Who has such a luxury? :D

What are your favourite tricks? I think the names or how it looks it is similar to ´ordinary´ freeski tricks. Does some special tricks for jibskate exist?

I copy a lot of tricks from freeskiers, that´s for sure. I am inspired by X-Games or lately Olympics finals :). it is said ,,If you want to live with a wolfs...´´ , so I howl with guys in the park J. My favourite are rotations to the box, 270 both sides or some switch, switch-ups, 270 off... S-rail is hell.

I am at the age when I like to jump, but nothing high or too much spin. If I jump, I try it to be more about the style. For freeride I like Velká Kotelní jáma. I always get there with my 190 cm long, race series skate skis, so next goal is to make it also with my freestyle skis. The landing is always extraordinary, according to free heel i can do a telemark. But as I said, i ride with my friends and most of the time I try to inspired by them :).

Where do you usually ski? You participate in local contests in Czech. Do you also visit some glaciers?

I ski the most in Krkonoše where i live. I used to have some hill behind my house but there is a house now. There is couple of nice snowparks around. Some of them are new, some of them disappeared or they are not able to build anything up.

Anyway, sometimes small box and bunch of  friends are enough to have a great day!

I attempt some contest if I have time, most of the time here in Krkonoše. For me it is not about the contest itself, it is more about the atmosphere and possibility of meeting people I haven´t seen for a long time. three times I went to Prague to Apres Ski, where great shred with friends was. The view of Hradčany was also amazing.

Before I was skiing at Hintertux or Stubai or Livigno, but nowadays school and work takes a lot of time. I also climb or do another activities, so I prefer to ski for fun in Czech mountains and valleys :).

I am also interested how is it with the jibskate in the world. Do you know more riders? Do you look for more information or search for any trends?

In general I can say every cross-country skier go jump sometimes after a training (at least we did that when I was pro athlete). Rails and other obstacles is a different story. Not a lot of people do it :D. I know Andy Newell from American team, who can sometimes jump rodeo. Some people from Czech ordered such a skis, but they are still not so much into the rails. I would like to challenge them by this! :)

Not so long ago I got an email from one Swedish rider about some improvements.

I learn everything about freestyle cross-country skiing by myself, but i attempted some camps, for example in Nový Hrozenkov and I am not afraid to ask for a help when i ma in some snowpark.

I discuss manufacturing of such a skis with one Czech freeski brand. Let´s see how it will end!

FROM OXSKIS TO CZ&SK TEAM OF FACTION

I v československém freeski rybníčku se mohou udít věcí, o kterých bude zasvědceně hovořit bulvár i seriózní novináři, a o kterých se povedou vášnivé debaty nejen na lanovkách. Petra Jurečková totiž po třech letech opouští mladou českou značku OX a přestupuje k českému týmu progresivní značky Faction!

SatisFACTION Ski Camp 2013.

Značka OX vstoupila na trh v roce 2010 a ihned se vrhla do podpory mladých nadějí. Od začátku tak s českou značkou spojili start kariéry právě Petra Jurečková nebo Šimon Bartík, ale třeba i Tomáš Vich a letos nově i Martin Moudrý. !
“Petra s námi byla spolu s Šimbou od úplných začátků a jsme hrdí na to, že se oba svou pílí propracovali mezi úplnou československou freeski špičku. Před začátekem letošní sezóny jsme si ale uvědomili , že před námi už nestojí dvě děcka, ale dospělí sportovci, pro které při naší velikosti nemáme ani kapitál, ani kapacity na to, podporovat je oba v takové míře, jakou si zaslouží. Zjištění, že se musíme rozhodnout zda jim buď oboum omezíme podporu, bolelo.!

Peťka byla od začátku součásti zázemí a viděla do řízení celé firmy. Sama pak přišla s návrhem, že pro ni bude nejlepší přestoupit k Factionu, od kterého měla nabídky už dříve. Srovnat se s jejím odchodem nebude jednoduché! Jsme rádi, že se nepřesouvá k některému z lyžařských molochů, ale k mladé perspektivní zančce která, stejně jako my, vyrábí u nás doma, v Evropě.” říká za OX Ondra Vávra.!

Faction je jedna z nejprogresivnějších značek, neustále přicházející s inovacemami a k výrobě lyží přistupuje stejně jako v Česku vyrábené OX. Její řady poprávu hájí jezdci jako Candide Thovex či Adam Delorme. Z našich luhů a hájů jsou ve Faction pro teamu Nana Šlepecká a Dan Hanka. Petra vstupuje do Faction týmu jako holčičí slovenská naděje. Už minulý rok byla jedním z koučů na SatisFACTION Ski Camp 2013 kde se její vztah k Factionu ještě prohloubil a snahy o Peťky přestup ze strany Faction začaly. “S Peťkou se známe už několik let a sledovali jsme pečlivě její zlepšování. Je to skvělá holka, která ví co chce a jde si za tím, což je vidět na jejích výsledcích. Na začátku tohoto roku přešla vzájemná komunikace do vyjednávání konkrétních podmínek přestupu a teď se nám k naší radosti podařilo se dohodnout. V nejbližsí době Peťka vyzkouší lyže a pak si vybere ty, které jí nejvíc padnou. Bude taky testovat holčičí outerwear, který je jednou z novinek značky Faction na zimu 14/15. Máme radost, že ji můžeme vybavit kompletně, oblečení máme konečně i pro holky a Peťka je z něj nadšená. Po Naně a Báře je to třetí holka v našem týmu a my doufáme, že je společné ježdění vyhecuje ještě výš a bude to přínosem pro všechny strany. S holkama toho určitě chystáme i víc, nechte se překvapit!” dodává za Faction Bet Sabová.

Skiing in Laax.

Important events which provoke heated debates not only on the slopes, but which will also be discussed in newspapers and tabloids are happening even in Czechoslovakian free ski. Petra Jurečková is leaving a young Czech brand OX after three years of collaboration and she will join a Czech team of a progressive brand called Faction.  

The brand OX entered the market in 2010 and immediately started promoting young promising sportsmen. Petra Jurečková, Šimon Bartík or Tomáš Vich and recently also Martin Moudrý have been connected with this brand since the start of their career. 

“Petra and Šimba have been with us since the very beginning and we are proud of how they both worked hard to finally achieve the position amongst the best Czechoslovakian free skiers. Before the start of this season we have, however, realized that they are not kids anymore, but grown-up sportsmen for whom we don’t have enough finance capital nor the capacity to support both of them the way they deserve it. The fact that we had to decide and cut down the level of support was painful.    

Peťka was part of the company since the beggining and she also understood its management. It was her who came up with the proposal of converting to Faction, which had contacted her previously with several offers. It won’t be easy to accept that she is leaving! On the other hand we are glad that she is moving to a promising young brand which produces at home, in Europe, just like us,” says Ondra Vávra from OX.  

Faction is one of the most progressive brands constantly coming up with innovations and its attitude towards the manufacture of skis is similar to a Czech brand OX. It is represented by famous riders such as Candide Thovex or Adam Delorme. The Czech Faction pro-team is represented by Nana Šlepecká and Dan Hanka. Petra Jurečková becomes a part of a czechoslovakian team full of hard working and promising riders, for example Bára Nováková, Igor Janckulík who reached fourth place in Špindlerův Mlýn in Bench team or Patrik Kříž who is taking a break this year due to health issues. 

SatisFACTION Ski Camp 2013.

“I have lived many beautiful and defining moments with OXskis. As a young rider and a new brand we gradually grew up together in the world of free skiing. I am very grateful that during all this time I was given incredible support not only as a rider, but also as a person. Leaving was not easy. 

The new offer to ride for Faction is an interesting challenge and I hope that this transfer will be worthy. I am glad that both brands are taking this step reasonably without unnecessary conflicts, this is very important to me”, added Peťka. 

Petra enters the Faction team as a new Slovak hope in girls category. Last year she was one of the couches in SatisFACTION Ski Camp 2013, her relationship with Faction became deeper and Faction started trying to make her transfer. “We know each other for a couple of years and we have been watching Peťka’s progress very carefully. She’s an amazing girl who knows what she wants and pursues her goal, which is evident from her achievements. At the beggining of the year the communication turned into negociation of specific terms and conditions for transfer and now we finally managed to make an agreement. In the near future Peťka will try skis and she will choose the ones that will suit her the most. She will also test girls outerwear, which is one of the Faction’s new releases for winter season 2014/2015. We are happy that she can get the full equipment. There is now an outerwear for girls and Peťka really likes it. She is the third girl in our team after Nana and Bára and we hope that the team trainings will encourage them even more and that it will be useful for everyone. But we have many more plans with the girls, just wait for it”, added Bet Sabová from Faction.
